Grand Osage Wildlife Area
The Grand Osage Wildlife Area is located three miles southeast of Parsons, among the rolling hills of the Osage Questas Region, Labette County, KS. The property is a restricted use area that is best known for quality special hunt opportunities.
The adjoining munitions facility and Great Plains Industrial Park require specific protocol for entry and must regulate activities within the shared 13,727-acre footprint. Safety meetings prior to access and/or escorted access is required in most instances. Limited access is administered via the KDWP Special Hunts program. Hunts that are available include youth deer hunts, antlerless deer hunts, either-sex archery deer hunts, quail hunts, furbearer hunts, youth spring turkey hunts and open spring turkey hunts. September dove hunts are generally successful and popular. Dove hunters are restricted to hunting certain days and timeframes. KDWP staff escort groups of hunters to the field, but hunter numbers are not restricted, therefore a special hunt drawing is not required.

The property was owned/managed by the U.S. Army and named the Kansas Army Ammunition Plant. It was in operation from 1941 thru 2010. The Army closed the facility along with others to consolidate for the purpose of efficiency. The Kansas Department of Wildlife and Parks (KDWP) purchased 3000 acres and manages via an agreement, another 6615 acres owned by the Great Plains Development Authority (GPDA). The remaining 4112 acres was acquired by DZI, a munitions manufacturer.
