Statewide Comprehensive Outdoor Recreation Plan

Overview

The Statewide Comprehensive Outdoor Recreation Plan (SCORP) helps guide outdoor recreation planning across Kansas. It looks at how people use parks, trails, and other outdoor spaces, identifies recreation needs and trends, and helps inform future funding and investment decisions. SCORP ensures Kansas communities have the data and guidance needed to improve access to quality outdoor recreation opportunities.

Current SCORP (2021–2025)

The 2021–2025 SCORP is the most current approved plan and will continue to be used through 2026. It reviews progress made under previous plans, addresses emerging recreation issues, and establishes goals to improve outdoor recreation access statewide.

Ongoing SCORP Study & Public Input

Kansas Department of Wildlife and Parks is currently partnered with Kansas State University on an ongoing study to develop the next SCORP, which will guide outdoor recreation planning from 2027–2037. Public input is a critical part of this process.

We encourage all Kansans—families, walkers, runners, and everyday recreation users—to share their experiences by completing the Recreation User Survey. The more responses we receive, the better the data will be to support future recreation planning and funding decisions.
