Jeffrey Energy Center Aux. Lake Fishing Report -
Species Rating Size Baits, Method, and Location
Black Bass Fair to Good Up to 5 pounds

The lake has a fairly good smallmouth bass population. Best place is the dam but they can be found in any rocky areas.

The largemouth bass population underperforms at this lake and currently is providing only a mediocre fishery. Best spots are around the island and the East bank.

Crappie Slow Most 10-12" Crappie numbers are never high at this lake and they are currently below normal. West side of the island is one of the better spots to find them.
Catfish Fair to Good Varies The lake supports a pretty good channel catfish population which is maintained with regular stockings of 8"-10" fish. Numbers of channel catfish have been fairly steady for the last decade, however bigger fish have been less common the last few years. Along the West bank seems to be the most consistent spot for channel catfish. The lake also supports a low-level blue catfish and flathead catfish populations.
Walleye and Sauger Fair Up to 6 pounds

The lake has maintained a modest walleye population with fairly good harvest rates through the years. The most recent fish sampling shows adult walleye numbers are low but there was good survival from the 2025 stocking.

Sauger have done very well at the lake since they were introduced in 2021. Sauger is the smaller cousin of walleye but they are growing to 15 inches in two years at this lake.

Walleye and sauger can both be caught using worms, trolling crankbaits, or throwing plastic baits. The two species are combined in KS regulations and an angler can harvest a combined total of 2 per day at the Jeffrey Lakes that are over the 15-inch minimum length limit.

White Bass Slow to Fair Most below 12" The current population is well below normal with few fish available right now.
Wiper Good Up to 8 pounds Wiper numbers are above average and is dominated by the 2022 year-class with 74% of the fish collected last fall were over 17 inches long. There are also good numbers of bigger fish with 29% over 20 inches.
